Role of Art & Wellness
Creating art has been shown to reduce cortisol levels in the brain, which creates stress. Cortisol is the primary stress hormone of the brain. According to the American Art Therapy Association, artistic expression may decrease anxiety, feelings of anger and depression. This creative process can also enhance cognitive abilities, foster greater self-awareness and help regulate emotions. Visual art is a very effective tool for mindfulness and engaging different parts of the brain to help manage mental health.
